In the South, girls love their sports. Nothing can turn a sweet talkin young lady into a screaming maniac faster than Auburn or Alabama at 4th and goal with 2 mins left in the game.

A new day is already here

I'm all about weight loss. You can find me talking about some of my favorite non-fad routines that I will try and quit from time to time. Busy life-style gets me every time. I was having some digestive issues there for a while and was desperate to lose some weight, so I scheduled myself a colonoscopy. Right before Christmas. What was I thinking? 10 lost pounds already down from the cleansing the day before and I come to find out that Christmas is going to be a complete challenge for me. Thanks to my family history of digestive issues and my stress level over the last year, I have two ulcers, a couple of polyps (which appear at first glance to be benign) and some acid re-flux, which I didn't even know about. The dietary regimen is so strict I am going to have to enlist my dietitian friend at Saint Francis in Columbus. All of my absolute favorites are barred from the list...anything I can think of...and almost everything in my kitchen. I am just eating soup for now...

It Takes a Community part one

There are a lot of us single parents out here. I probably know of more absent moms than anything. It is just so sad that these kids don't have what my girls have, but at the same time, my girls have missed a whole lifetime without a dad, so they've missed a lot too. I think it's a God-given responsibility when you are blessed with a boy. You have been given the opportunity to turn him into a Man. A man that will create more men and carry on the family line, but also a man who will lead his family, and hopefully, as God intended it--lead his family into a relationship with God, and ultimately heaven. I could go on a whole week about where are the dads and why are kids staying kids and not learning responsibilities, etc... but I digress. This week was a fun one. This is where the community comes in. One of the coaches, realizing that Lynn was struggling with remembering his plays, pulled Meghan aside and asked her to help him study them. Much on my plate

I came home tonight and crawled into bed with a sleeping sixteen year-old who draped her arm around me and snuggled in. Even in her slumber, she knew I needed a hug. Today was a hugely busy day for me and all of us. What started with an epic mom fail at 6:15 am ended in a sweet moment between mother and daughter. And the irony of it is that I didn't see this kid for most of the day. Today was move-in day for the soccer team at Faulkner University. My oldest, Erin, was to join the ranks today as goalie, and it was her first day reporting to the field...they said....thank goodness they found a classroom. August in Alabama is not for the faint of heart. Erin had to be on campus by 2 pm, so she was planning on leaving the house by 9...her last day ever to sleep in. Today was also the first Saturday in August...traditionally since 1980, the day of the Woodstock 5K race in Anniston. Meghan, the youngest, is on the cross country team at Lincoln.
